“Good Bad Taste” is an accompanying publication to the exhibition of the same name, which took place in the summer of 2015 in the Darmstadt Design House. The starting point for the publication was the aesthetics of Popband poster booklets. A visual essay was created around the inner text section, which mainly used material or images from the exhibition and presented them in new combinations.
In the modern world, we are almost everywhere surrounded by artificially designed spaces. In this respect, the question of good design or good taste is important to us all. But what are the criteria for good taste? And how is it that in many places we are surrounded by tasteless things? Is there even a comprehensible weakness for badly designed things? Often one meets the opinion that taste is individually different and purely subjective. But how can we then create an aesthetically satisfying common world? These questions illuminate the exhibition from many different perspectives in a dense staging of objects, pictures, films and texts. It shows contradictions, offers spectacular, funny, horribly ugly, appealing and reprehensible. ”
